Based on the findings in the HiPERFORM project, the partners have set ambitious targets to be reached in the follow-up project HiEFFICIENT.
ADVANCED WBG ELECTRONICS FOR AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
The project HiPERFORM aims at a substantial contribution to the decarbonisation of the transport through the use of advanced wide band gap (WBG) materials in the electric power circuit of the vehicles and related devices.
TECHNICAL INNOVATION
Through the use of WBG switches, the efficiency of power inverters in the vehicle as well as for chargers will be much higher than today (from 95% to 98%). The volume and weight of the inverters and on-board chargers can be reduced up to 50%, which will help to optimize the vehicle efficiency. Because of the high switching frequencies (i.e. 50 kHz in vehicles), e-motors can be optimized and the improved efficiency of inverters for chargers help to save energy.
NEXT GENERATION OF GREEN VEHICLES
The expected project results will enable the European manufactures of WBG-based electric vehicle components, charging devices, and test systems to deliver excellent technologies for the automotive industry, to develop next generation affordable green vehicles.
